Qualifications

The TN non-immigrant classification was established to facilitate the movement of professionals between the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This category is reserved for individuals with specific professional qualifications who have a prearranged job offer from a U.S. employer.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for TN status, you must meet the following USCIS and USMCA regulatory standards:

  • Citizenship: You must be a citizen of Canada or Mexico.
  • Professional Occupation: Your profession must be on the specific list of NAFTA/USMCA recognized professions (e.g., accountants, engineers, lawyers, pharmacists, scientists, and teachers).
  • Job Offer: You must have a prearranged full-time or part-time job with a U.S. employer (self-employment is not permitted).
  • Qualifications: You must possess the specific educational and/or work experience requirements dictated by the USMCA for your profession.
